Simplifying your Zakat calculation

Calculating your Zakat isn't as difficult as you may think. We find that breaking your assets down into different categories makes the Zakat calculation process really simple.

We have broken down the calculation process into Zakatable assets (gold, silver, cash, savings, business assets etc.) and Deductible liabilities (money you owe, other outgoings due) so you can calculate the Zakat you owe easily.

The amount of Zakat you need to pay will be determined once you have calculated the value of your net assets. You then need to see whether your net assets are equal to, or exceed the threshold.

Our Feeding Scheme provides essential daily meals to students and vulnerable communities who rely on this support.

The cost to feed one student for a full year is R7,200, ensuring consistent access to nutritious meals throughout their learning journey.

A single meal costs just R30 a small amount that makes a big difference.

To provide a hot meal for 10 people costs R300, allowing you to directly impact multiple lives in one contribution.

For these individuals, the cold is more than an inconvenience it can be life-threatening. The IDM Winter Warm Campaign  is dedicated to delivering essential winter kits to those in need, providing warmth and hope in their most challenging times.

In Southern Africa, winter's harsh conditions leave many struggling to survive. Families without proper shelter, warm clothing, or heating face freezing temperatures, putting children, the elderly, and the ill at significant risk of hypothermia, respiratory illnesses, and malnutrition.

Whats in a Winter Kit?

Each winter kit is thoughtfully prepared to meet the urgent needs of struggling families. These kits include:

• Winter Clothing Kits: Warm jackets, gloves, scarves, socks, and hats.
• Blanket Kits: Thick, durable blankets for nighttime warmth.
• Heating Kits: Firewood, heaters, or other materials to provide life-saving heat.

A Once Vibrant Masjid, Now in Urgent Need of Reconstruction
For over three decades, the South Beach Masjid & Islamic Community Centre stood as a pillar of faith and togetherness in the heart of Durban's South Beach area. It was a place where sailors stopped to pray, workers found peace after long days, and children's voices echoed as they learned the words of Allah (SWT).
Today, those same walls tell a different story - cracks spread across the ceilings, the roof leaks, and the once-busy prayer hall now struggles to host daily salah.
What was once a thriving centre of worship and learning has become unsafe and nearly unusable.
The time has come to rebuild - not just a structure, but a sanctuary of faith.

A Vision to Restore Hope and Worship
The Islamic Dawah Movement (IDM) has launched an urgent appeal to reconstruct the South Beach Masjid & Islamic Community Centre - to restore it into a safe, beautiful, and welcoming space for prayer, learning, and community service.
This reconstruction will include:

• A completely rebuilt main prayer hall

• Madrasah classrooms for children

• Ablution (wudhu) facilities for men and women

• A revamped community area for gatherings and classes

• Safe, durable roofing and flooring

When complete, this Masjid will once again echo with the adhan, shelter daily worshippers, and serve as a home for Islamic education and unity.

Why This Project Matters
Durban's South Beach is home to a diverse and growing Muslim population, as well as thousands of visitors who work, live, or pass through the city centre.
The Masjid serves:

• Over 80 madrasah students
