Tucked in the heart of Amandawe, a township on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal - the Amandawe Masjid has long served as the spiritual anchor for a small but devoted Muslim community. For decades, it has provided a sacred space for salah, Islamic education, community upliftment, and da'wah efforts in the area.

But today, this beloved masjid needs you.

A Small Community, A Big Heart

Amandawe is home to a growing number of reverts and born-Muslim families who depend on the masjid as their only nearby Islamic centre. Many residents face socio-economic hardships yet cling to their faith with unshakable devotion. The masjid is not just a place of worship - it is their refuge, their classroom, their reminder of Allah's mercy.

 

Revive a Sacred Sanctuary

The masjid's roof leaks in the rain, the carpets are frayed, and facilities are worn. Despite this, the Musallees continue to pray with patience and love. But it shouldn't be this way.

• R39 000 will repair the roof and lay fresh carpets so the faithful can pray in comfort and dignity.

Restore Dignity in Worship

The wudhu areas are outdated and struggle to meet the needs of elderly and disabled members. Every believer deserves to prepare for prayer with ease and cleanliness.

• R23 000 will modernize the ablution areas and upgrade the plumbing.

Keep the Lights of Faith Burning

Old electrical wiring is both unsafe and unreliable. Frequent power outages disrupt classes and prayer.

• R15 000 will install safe, modern electrical systems that power both light and learning.

Educate the Future of Islam in Amandawe

Islamic education is the backbone of this community. Children gather for Qur'an lessons; adults come for knowledge and guidance. The masjid classrooms, however, are in urgent need of repair.

• R73 000 will renovate classrooms and expand the masjid library to nourish minds and souls.

 

Echoes of the Prophet (PBUH) Legacy

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
"When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them." (Sahih Muslim 1631)

And in another narration:
"Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise." (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)

And Allah SWT says:
"The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day" (Surah At-Tawbah 9:18)

A Once Vibrant Masjid, Now in Urgent Need of Reconstruction
For over three decades, the South Beach Masjid & Islamic Community Centre stood as a pillar of faith and togetherness in the heart of Durban's South Beach area. It was a place where sailors stopped to pray, workers found peace after long days, and children's voices echoed as they learned the words of Allah (SWT).
Today, those same walls tell a different story - cracks spread across the ceilings, the roof leaks, and the once-busy prayer hall now struggles to host daily salah.
What was once a thriving centre of worship and learning has become unsafe and nearly unusable.
The time has come to rebuild - not just a structure, but a sanctuary of faith.

A Vision to Restore Hope and Worship
The Islamic Dawah Movement (IDM) has launched an urgent appeal to reconstruct the South Beach Masjid & Islamic Community Centre - to restore it into a safe, beautiful, and welcoming space for prayer, learning, and community service.
This reconstruction will include:

• A completely rebuilt main prayer hall

• Madrasah classrooms for children

• Ablution (wudhu) facilities for men and women

• A revamped community area for gatherings and classes

• Safe, durable roofing and flooring

When complete, this Masjid will once again echo with the adhan, shelter daily worshippers, and serve as a home for Islamic education and unity.

The Islamic Dawah Movement of Southern Africa (IDM) proudly presents its latest initiative — the Harrismith Musjid & Islamic Community Centre, a beacon of Deen and unity strategically located on the main Durban–Johannesburg route.

This project aims to establish a spiritual home for the growing Muslim community in Harrismith and provide a convenient prayer point for travellers journeying along one of South Africa’s busiest highways.

It will serve as a centre for worship, education, and dawah, bringing together Muslims in faith, knowledge, and service.

Project Overview

Location: Harrismith, KwaZulu-Natal
Purpose: Establish a permanent Musjid and Islamic Centre
Total Target: R850,000

The development will include:

• Main Musjid Building

• Imam’s Residence

• Madrasah Classrooms

• Ablution (Wudhu) Areas for men and women

• Community Learning & Dawah Space

• Children’s Learning Area

Why Harrismith?

• Strategic location: On the N3 Highway between Durban and Johannesburg — a major route for travellers and truck drivers.

• No existing Musjid: There is currently no permanent Musjid serving the area.

• High community need: Growing number of Muslims and reverts in Harrismith and nearby towns.

Once completed, the centre will offer:

• Daily Salah and Jumu’ah

• Madrasah classes for children

• Adult Islamic education

• Dawah and community programmes

• Facilities for travellers to stop, pray, and rest.
