A Masjid That Changed Lives – Now It Needs Your Help

More than 35 years ago, in the heart of Edendale, the KwaPata Masjid & Islamic Community Centre was established as a simple building — but it became something far greater.
It became a home for new reverts, a school for children learning the Quran, and a place of peace for a growing Muslim community surrounded by challenges.

Through IDM’s years of dawah and education, Islam took root here — and today, KwaPata stands as a symbol of faith, unity, and hope.
But the Masjid that once brought the community together is now in urgent need of reconstruction.

The walls are cracked, the roof has weakened, and the space that once held hundreds for Jumu’ah is no longer safe.
To preserve the light of Deen in KwaPata, we must rebuild — together.

Our Vision: Restore, Rebuild, and Revive

The Islamic Dawah Movement (IDM) is leading the effort to reconstruct the KwaPata Masjid & Islamic Community Centre — ensuring that it continues to nurture faith, education, and unity for generations to come.

This is not just a renovation — it is a complete renewal of a space that has shaped lives for over three decades.

Once completed, the Masjid will include:

• A new prayer hall designed for safety and comfort

• Madrasah classrooms for over 80 students

• Proper wudhu (ablution) facilities

• Roof and wall reconstruction

• Improved flooring, lighting, and sound systems

A Community That Depends on This Masjid

KwaPata, located in the Edendale township of Pietermaritzburg, is home to a growing Muslim community — many of whom embraced Islam through IDM’s dawah and social outreach.
For them, this Masjid is more than a building; it is their identity, their classroom, and their connection to Allah (SWT).

The KwaPata Centre provides:

• Daily Salah and Jumu’ah

• Madrasah classes for children and youth

• Adult education and revert support programs

• Feeding and welfare initiatives

• Community and dawah outreach

If this Masjid is not rebuilt, these essential services — and the spiritual heartbeat of the area — may be lost.

Tucked in the heart of Amandawe, a township on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal - the Amandawe Masjid has long served as the spiritual anchor for a small but devoted Muslim community. For decades, it has provided a sacred space for salah, Islamic education, community upliftment, and da'wah efforts in the area.

But today, this beloved masjid needs you.

A Small Community, A Big Heart

Amandawe is home to a growing number of reverts and born-Muslim families who depend on the masjid as their only nearby Islamic centre. Many residents face socio-economic hardships yet cling to their faith with unshakable devotion. The masjid is not just a place of worship - it is their refuge, their classroom, their reminder of Allah's mercy.

 

Revive a Sacred Sanctuary

The masjid's roof leaks in the rain, the carpets are frayed, and facilities are worn. Despite this, the Musallees continue to pray with patience and love. But it shouldn't be this way.

• R39 000 will repair the roof and lay fresh carpets so the faithful can pray in comfort and dignity.

Restore Dignity in Worship

The wudhu areas are outdated and struggle to meet the needs of elderly and disabled members. Every believer deserves to prepare for prayer with ease and cleanliness.

• R23 000 will modernize the ablution areas and upgrade the plumbing.

Keep the Lights of Faith Burning

Old electrical wiring is both unsafe and unreliable. Frequent power outages disrupt classes and prayer.

• R15 000 will install safe, modern electrical systems that power both light and learning.

Educate the Future of Islam in Amandawe

Islamic education is the backbone of this community. Children gather for Qur'an lessons; adults come for knowledge and guidance. The masjid classrooms, however, are in urgent need of repair.

• R73 000 will renovate classrooms and expand the masjid library to nourish minds and souls.

 

Echoes of the Prophet (PBUH) Legacy

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
"When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity), beneficial knowledge, and a righteous child who prays for them." (Sahih Muslim 1631)

And in another narration:
"Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise." (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim)

And Allah SWT says:
"The mosques of Allah are only to be maintained by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day" (Surah At-Tawbah 9:18)
